State Parks
Nearly 700 law enforcement positions exist within the Department of Parks and Recreation (State Parks) to enforce the laws, policies, rules, and regulations that apply directly to state park properties and zones of impact, as well as provide for public safety, homeland security, visitor services, resource management, and environmental interpretation. All park rangers are sworn state Peace Officers who may enforce any state law.
Department Peace Officer's authority is found in the Penal Code, Section 830.2 (f) and the Public Resources Code sections 5003, 5008, and 5012.
